Estrace tablets belong to a estrogen group. Active substance of Estrace is estradiol, identical to the female hormone-estrogen. This hormone is released in female body during the whole reproductive period – beginning with the first menstruation and till menopause. After the onset of menopause, the formation of estrogen hormone is significantly reduced, causing a number of diseases, such as osteoporosis (primarily the spine), atrophy of the urogenital system as well as conditions, such as sleep disorders, thermoregulatory and vasomotor instability and vaginal dryness.
Estrace tablets are intended for the treatment of estrogen deficiency in menopause (including the surgical menopause), primary and secondary amenorrhea, postmenopausal osteoporosis, oligomenorrhea, hypomenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, secondary estrogen deficiency, breast cancer, as well as infertility, post-term pregnancy, uterine inertia and lactation suppression. Men also use Estrace tablets to treat prostate cancer, hyperandrogenic alopecia, urogenital disorders.
Use of Estrace tablets are contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding, hypersensitivity to the drug, ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, severe liver and kidney diseases, especially during the aggravation.
Estrace tablets can cause anorexia, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, headache, intolerance to contact lenses, as well as:
- in women: amenorrhea, pain and increase of breast, intermenstrual “spotting” vaginal discharges, bleeding, “breakthrough”, increased libido, menorrhagia, mammary glands tumor.
- in men: sensitivity and soreness of the breast, decreased libido.
Estrace tablets should be prescribed by the doctor after thorough medical examination.
Estrace tablets are not birth control pills and do not protect from sexually transmitted diseases.
